In the quiet recesses of the Antibes Cathedral in southern France, a garlic bulb is offered to a wooden, faded statue of Christ on the cross. On a self-imposed artist residency in Antibes, where I spent the majority of my time in reflection at the church, the idea of Gentle Offering came to me. An offering of something so simplistic, like the skins of garlic, wispy and featherlike, given to a feminine being. The being cries girly tears made of velvet ribbons, inspired by Simone Rocha's AW23 makeup.ย
Gentle Offering was exhibited at David Zwirnerโs 2024 After-Hours: People Who Work Here Exhibition.ย
